Museums

The American Computer Museum shows the information highway when it was a dirt road. A 20,000 year time line comes together under one roof. The Pony Express, the telegraph, the telephone, radio, television, computers and the Internet are interwoven with thousands of historic artifacts and supporting materials. Museum of the Rockies: Called “ Montana’s most entertaining museum” by Lonely Planet Guidebooks, the Museum of the Rockies is Montana’s premier natural and cultural history museum. The Museum houses permanent exhibits on dinosaurs, geology and Montana history – including Native American cultures – as well as a planetarium, a living history farm and a museum store. Summer hours from Memorial to Labor Day are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The rest of the year, the museum is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Sundays, 12:30 to 5 p.m. Located just south of the MSU campus at 600 West Kagy Blvd. Call (406) 994-DINO

The Pioneer Museum is located in the old Gallatin County Jail at 317 W. Main Street. Current exhibits include Lewis & Clark in Gallatin County, the Sweet Pea Carnival/Festival, and Bozeman’s early Chinese and African American communities. There’s also Native American leather and beadwork displays and the historic “Big Horn Gun.” Handicapped access is available. 406.522.8122.

Yellowstone Gateway Museum of Park County (Livingston, MT) offers an outstanding collection covering area archeology, Yellowstone Park, the Northern Pacific railroad, Calamity Jane, geology and pioneer living. The Helen E. Copeland Gallery for the School of Art at Montana State University is one of the premier exhibition spaces for contemporary art in the region with 7-12 exhibitions annually including undergraduate exhibitions, thesis exhibitions, shows by internationally known artists, and a series of events including wine tastings and musical performances. Classics for Kids Foundation presents the 19th Annual Montana Chamber Music Festival, featuring members of the world-renowned Muir Quartet and acclaimed guests, July 7-15, 2007.
